Canada's Admission quota will increase in the next three years.
The Immigration Levels Plan 2024-2026, released by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), indicates a steady increase in admission targets for Canada's two primary economic immigration pathways: Express Entry and the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).
The plan underscores the continued focus on economic immigration to drive Canada's growth in permanent residency.
In the 2023-2025 plan, PNPs surpassed Express Entry in immigration targets.
However, the latest plan for 2024-2026 positions Express Entry to lead in 2024, with PNPs taking the lead in 2025 and 2026.
The specific targets outlined in the plan are as follows:
2024: Express Entry (110,770) and PNPs (110,000)
2025: PNPs (120,000) and Express Entry (117,500)
2026: PNPs (120,000) and Express Entry (117,500)
Express Entry manages the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, and Canadian Experience Class applications.
The system employs standard and category-based draws to select candidates based on factors like the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score.
PNPs, on the other hand, empower local governments to choose candidates addressing specific regional labour market and economic needs.
The goal is to distribute immigration benefits across Canada beyond major cities like Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal.
